Attestation of a document generally implies that it is verified as it has been signed in front of witnesses. In other words, it might be said, that it refers to an act of bearing witness. There might be multiple connotations in the legal context, but in simple words, attestation can be described as the means by which you’re able to prove that the document (anything ranging from a degree to a marriage certificate) you have is duly authenticated by the signature of a notary or a public figure.

At times the attested document can also contain additional information about the person who has signed it. For instance, it might as well mention that the concerned individual, who is acting as the signatory (and therefore, has authenticated the document), is of sound mind. There are always chances of the authentication of the document being questioned on grounds that the testator is not of sound mind.

Besides, marriage and degree certificates, mentioned above, there are times when you would be asked by your new employer to get yourself an attested letter from your previous employer stating that the employment dates and the pay stated in the employee application.

There are a number of companies providing attestation services in different areas of the India (viz, UAE Embassy Attestation services in Mumbai, Birth Certificate Apostille in Vadodara, Degree Certificate Apostille in Vadodara, Marriage Certificate Apostille in Vadodara). Look up the web for finding more information about them. Please remember that attestation is a serious business and that you’re duly taking care to choose a company that enjoys decent reputation.
